The Shabbos in a Box you delivered after I gave birth felt like a warm hug, with homemade food, baked goods, and a handwritten note that made Shabbos in the hospital feel like home.

Dear Chesed 24/7 volunteers,
I was in the hospital after giving birth on Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, for Shabbos. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with a first child and not sure how this would work for Shabbos.I don’t know who you are or what you do in your day-to-day life. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but what we got was beyond anything I had ever thought. The personalized food packed, everything tied up nicely and delivered directly to me. I had asked my husband to bring an extra package of pitas back with him in case there wasn’t enough food, but when the food was delivered to us, I realized how ridiculous that was. Naively I thought this was a huge catering operation that packed some boxes on the side to send to people in the hospital, but what we got was fresh homemade delicious food enough to feed an army.
From challah and grape juice all the way to the delicious baked goods. They even took the time to write a note. And while I don’t know much Yiddish, just reading the words felt like a big warm hug from a friend. Everything was thought of and included, and then some. Multiple staff members asked me what all those bags were, and when I explained that these are meals from volunteers so that all Jews have some homemade food for Shabbos, they were touched and astounded. You may have just made another meal, but for me it was so much more.May you always be zoche to be on the giving side, making people feel cared for and loved. Thank you so much!
